Ever felt inspired to take part in a marathon? But when it comes to the thought of running 26 miles you break out into a cold sweat? Well, before you add it to your “bucket list” here’s your opportunity to get your first marathon under your belt and you don’t even need a pair of trainers – just a 35mm camera and a little imagination for Photomarathon UK this summer in Cardiff.
Photomarathon UK is a photographic competition with a twist. Armed only with a 35mm film camera your challenge is to take 12 photos of 12 given subjects with only a 12 exposure film – just one chance for each shot. Taking place over 12 hours on Saturday June 20th 2009 this marathon tests the stamina of your mind rather than your body.
Headquarters on the day will be based at the iconic Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay where the top secret topics will be announced at four hour intervals. Past topics have included The Kiss, Life Goes on, Retail Therapy and Independent – to name but a few.
Following the marathon every entrants work is processed and presented in a free public exhibition at Cardiff Old Library from 25 July – 9 August. Participants work will also be judged by a panel of leading photography experts who will select winners that will be announced at a private viewing.
Photomarathon fanatic and past winner Simon Murray who has taken part since the competition started in the UK says “It’s a fantastic day out for everyone you can take part with your family, friends or even against them! It doesn’t matter about your age or ability just be creative and have some fun.”
Booking opens on Monday 13 April, to register for this year’s competition click here. Entry cost is £15 and includes film, processing, free bus and train travel around Cardiff on the day and private invite to exhibition launch in July. Participants must provide their own camera.
