12 hours, 12 topics, 12 pictures, 1 unforgettable day.
January 9, 2017
There’s no easy way to say this, but for now, this Photomarathon is over. There will be no event in 2017 are no further events are planned for the foreseeable future.
It’s been a tough decision for us all, but after 11 wonderful events, we’ve decided to bring this chapter to a close. As many of you know, we took a break last summer and used the opportunity to take a long, hard look at the event: we explored the time, spaces and financial resources required to host a successful event, as well as looking at the costs of making the improvements we felt were necessary. At the same time, we had to balance this with our own individual desires to explore new avenues. In the end, something had to give.
For the small band of volunteers, who’ve all given so freely of their time, Photomarathon has been a real labour of love. We’ve enjoyed every minute, and have been rewarded with so many good experiences. Since hosting our first event in 2004, we saw the event grow and become an established part of Cardiff’ summer calendar of activities. We’ve also had the privilege of working with and meeting a vast number of creative, passionate and fun people. For all these things we’ll be forever grateful.
We’d like to thank everyone who’s played a part – no matter how big or small – in making Photomarathon a success. Without you, it just wouldn’t have happened. What started as a crazy idea, become a decade of creative exploration. But it’s now time to move on and start mapping out some new adventures.
So, goodbye for now. We we look forward to meeting some of you on other creative journeys.
And to anyone who has a similarly crazy idea floating round the back of their mind? Just go for it, and enjoy the ride.
